Texans' Pharaoh Brown named NFLPA Community MVP

Texans veteran tight end Pharaoh Brown was named the Week 18 NFL Players Association Community MVP after he hosted a holiday dinner at Covenant House Texas, where he also donated $4,000 and provided gift cards for each resident.

"Being named the NFLPA Community MVP means the world to me,” Brown said. “As a father myself, I know how important it is for communities to look after the well-being of our youth. I’m proud to work alongside wonderful organizations, like Covenant House, that make a real difference within the Houston community.”

Brown and his wife, Celest, made a special visit to the residents of Covenant House Texas, which provides sanctuary, programs and services for homeless, abused and abandoned youth, including those who have escaped sex trafficking. The evening included a dinner for all of those in attendance, a $4,000 donation to support the Covenant House mission and gift cards to Raising Canes and other businesses for each resident.

“We knew the holidays are especially tough for many in the midst of COVID, and we wanted to provide a meal for those in need,” said Brown, whose outreach efforts align with January’s Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

In honor of Brown being named this week’s Community MVP, the NFLPA will make a $10,000 contribution to his charity or foundation of choice. NFLPA supporting partner, Aldine Sports Association, will create customized T-shirts and hoodies featuring his unique Community MVP superhero illustration made by HEARTLENT Group. The apparel will be sold on ASA’s website during the season, with a portion of all proceeds going to Brown’s foundation or charity of choice.

With this recognition, Brown closes out the 2021 NFLPA Community MVP season as the second Texan to earn this award, joining teammate and Week 1 winner Justin Reid. All 18 of the NFLPA Community MVPs are now eligible for this year’s Alan Page Community Award, which is the highest honor that the NFLPA can bestow upon a player.

The five finalists for the Alan Page Community Award will be announced later this month after being determined by an external committee featuring labor, media, charitable partner industry members as well as a fan vote taking place January 10-14. The winner of the Alan Page Community Award will be announced in February during the NFLPA’s annual Super Bowl press conference.
