The Houston Astros wrapped up Day 2 of full squad workouts on Wednesday, as they gear up for their first Spring Training game this Saturday as they face the Mets, Brandon Bielak is expected to take the mound for Houston, and you can hear all of the action on your home for Astros baseball, SportsTalk790.
Primary takeaways from Wednesday included:
- Michael Brantley continued to get in work in the outfield, and threw the ball several times, in addition to taking some work with the bat. He continues to progress and looks to be on track to be ready for the start of the season, as he works his way back from shoulder surgery.
- Lance McCullers Jr revealed he had a setback with a muscle strain in his right arm and will not be ready for Opening Day. He said he hopes to start throwing again in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, the door now opens for Hunter Brown to join the Astros rotation in the void of McCullers.
- Other tidbits from Wednesday: Jake Meyers said he is healthy and ready to compete for that outfield spot, Jose Abreu can absolutely crush the ball off the bat, Kyle Tucker put a lot of batting practice balls on the other side of the wall, and Forrest Whitley looked solid in throwing a live batting practice session, could he finally make it to the majors this season?
