A Familiar Face Returns to the Astros Farm System

Prior to Saturday's game, the Houston Astros signed infielder Jon Singleton to a minor-league contract, assigning him to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Singleton was an 8th round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009, and was traded to the Astros in July 2011 along with Jarred Cosart, Josh Zeid and Domingo Santana in exchange for Hunter Pence.

The 31-year old Singleton was regarded as one of the top infield prospects in baseball while with the Astros organization from 2011-2017. He played in 114 games at the Major League level with the Astros from 2014-15. Singleton appeared in 11 games with the Brewers this season but has spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Nashville, prior to being DFA’d and electing free agency on June 21.

Through 1,064 minor league games, Singleton has hit .252 (929 x 3692) with 169 home runs, 645 RBI and an .828 OPS.

In January 2018, MLB announced that Singleton failed a third test for a drug of abuse and would be suspended for 100 games. In May 2018, he was released by the Astros organization while serving his suspension in the final year of his contract. He signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers organization in December 2021.
