Additional imaging done on Jeremy Peña has revealed a small fracture in one of the ribs on his left side. As a result, Peña will be placed on the 10-day Injured List (retroactive to June 28).
Peña sustained the injury during Friday night’s game vs. the Cubs after being hit by a pitch. Initial X-rays taken on Friday night did not reveal a fracture. However, additional imaging was done on Sunday afternoon, and an MRI and CT scan revealed a small fracture.
Peña will be with the Astros ballclub during the upcoming road trip, receiving treatment. The trip begins tomorrow in Denver vs. the Colorado Rockies. In 82 games, Peña is hitting .322 with 11 home runs, 40 RBI, 48 runs scored and 15 stolen bases with an .867 OPS. He currently ranks second in the Majors in WAR (5.2), per STATS.
The Astros will announce a corresponding roster move on Tuesday.
