HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros have selected right-handed pitcher Miguel Ullola to their 40-man roster. The deadline to protect eligible minor league players from the 2025 Rule 5 Draft is today at 5 p.m. CT.
Ullola, 23, pitched his entire 2025 season at Triple A Sugar Land, where he went 7-6 with a 3.88 ERA (49ER/113.2IP) in 28 games (23 starts). Ullola struck out 131 hitters in his 113.2 innings, while allowing a .186 opponent batting average in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Among pitchers with at least 100 innings pitched in the PCL this season, Ullola posted the lowest ERA and opponent batting average, while ranking second in strikeouts and fourth in WHIP (1.35). Ullola also received several honors in 2025 as he was named PCL Pitcher of the Month in May (3-0, 1.17 ERA) while twice being named PCL Player of the Week (May 5, May 12).
Ullola (pronounced oo-YOH-la) is a native of the Dominican Republic and was signed by the Astros as an international free agent on Jan. 15, 2021. In his five-year minor league career (2021-25), he's posted an 18-27 record and a 4.32 ERA (207ER/431IP) in 113 games (76 starts). He owns a career opponent batting average of .187 and has struck out 576 hitters in 431.0 career minor league innings. Since the 2022 season, Ullola leads all of minor league baseball in strikeouts (538).
In a corresponding move, the Astros designated infielder Ramón Urías for assignment.
