Yordan Alvarez Named AL Player of the Month for March/April

HOUSTON, TX – Major League Baseball announced today that Astros OF/DH Yordan Alvarez has been named American League Player of the Month for March/April. It is the third career AL Player of the Month Award for Alvarez, who is also the last Astro to win AL Player of the Month, doing so in September 2023. Alvarez also received the award in June 2022.

For the months of March and April, Alvarez batted .356 (42x118) with nine doubles, 12 home runs, 27 RBI, 21 walks, 25 runs scored and a 1.199 OPS (.462 OBP/.737 SLG). Over that period, Alvarez led the Majors in OPS, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, hits and total bases (87), and ranked tied for first in home runs. In the AL, he ranked first in batting average, RBI and extra-base hits (21), tied for third in runs, tied for sixth in doubles and tied for seventh in walks.

As part of his prolific month at the plate, Alvarez received AL Player of the Week honors for the week of March 30-April 5. He went on a 13-game hitting streak from April 14-28, which matched his career-long streak and is tied for the longest streak among AL players this season. He recorded a 22-game on-base streak from April 4-28, tied for the second-longest among AL players this year. Alvarez also registered 34 consecutive at-bats without a strikeout from April 19-28, a period in which he hit .382 (13x34) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI.

Along with his three career AL Player of the Month Awards, Alvarez has earned four career AL Player of the Week honors and was named AL Rookie of the Month three consecutive months in 2019 (June-August).
