Gerrit Cole threw one of the most dominating pitching performances in postseason history Saturday night as the Astros beat the Rays, 2-1.
To say Cole was dominate would be an understatement. He threw an absolute clinic to beat Tampa Bay. Cole tossed 7.2 IP of scoreless ball while giving up just four hits, no runs, one walk and striking out 15. With the 15 K's, Cole set an Astros franchise record for strikeouts in a postseason game. He's won 17 straight decisions and recorded his 10th straight outing with 10 or more strikeouts. Another stat for you: Cole had 33 swings and misses which is the most in a postseason game since the Major Leagues began tracking that stat in 2008.
Alex Bregman hit a solo jack in the 4th inning to get Houston on the board first. Martin Maldonado hit an RBI single in the 7th to score a run followed by a Carlos Correa RBI single an inning later in the 8th. Yordan Alvarez joined Bregman, Correa and Maldonado with two hits in the victory.
Houston will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays in game three Monday afternoon. Zack Greinke will take the mound for the Astros with first pitch schedule for 12pm CT.
