‘Mattress Mack’ back with big bets on Astros

Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale has bet a total of $4 million on the Houston Astros to win the World Series, hoping to win $42 million

The Houston furniture promotion wizard wagered $3 million on the Caesars Sportsbook mobile app at 10-1 odds, and a $1 million bet at WynnBET at 12-1 odds. He placed them both while in Louisiana.

McIngvale, 71, said he felt the odds were pretty good. “They’re a good team. They’ve been to the ALCS the last five years in a row and they’ve gone to three World Series.”

The Astros are one of the hottest teams in baseball today with 11 consecutive wins.

McIngvale makes such bets to reduce his risk on furniture promotions. In this one, customers who buy furniture costing $3,000 or more for a limited time would double their money back if the Astros win the World Series. Mack says he's planning a second promotion through which customers who buy $3,000 or more in furniture will get all - but not double - their money back if Houston wins it all.

Mack lost $4 million when he bet on the Astros to win the 2021 World Series. Houston fell to the Atlanta Braves in six games. But if the Astros win the World Series this year, Mack would haul in the largest win ever on a legal sports bet.

Mack also lost $9.5 million in bets that the Cincinnati Bengals would win the Super Bowl over the Los Angeles Rams. And last week, he lost $2.6 million in bets on Kentucky Derby favorite Epicenter.

On the other hand, he won $12.2 million when Kansas took the NCAA men’s basketball title.
