Connor: Stop Freaking Out About The Correa Situation

I want Carlos Correa in Houston more than anyone. I want this done today, but if it does not happen, it simply does not happen. When Correa spoke with the media last night, remember this, both he and the Astros are playing a game of chicken right now and his speaking to the media about the offer being "low" is part of that. Do not doubt for one second that he and the Astros would prefer to get this done and last night, to me, is simply trying to put pressure on the Astros to get it done this week.

The Astros know what he is worth, this is simply on Correa knowing what he is worth as well. I want him to get paid, he is deserving of it, but stop it with the talk that the six year, 120 million dollar offer was low or disrespectful to him. The market comp for his career is the Xander Bogaerts deal and the Astros were right to make that their first offer. Again, nothing about it was disrespectful, so save it.

Carlos Correa is one of the best shortstops in baseball and will be the youngest to hit a loaded free agent market this winter. The unfortunate truth with Correa is that there has been a little too much up and down at the plate and there is of course an injury history. The Astros cannot blindly throw stupid money at him without considering these things and it would be silly of them to go jump the market and excessively make him the highest paid shortstop in the league when again, the unfortunate truth is that he is not worthy yet of being that. We as fans have to take our emotion out of this at times and remember that for the business to remain successful for a lengthy period of time, you have to be calculated in the way you operate. If Correa had a track record of being healthy and contending for MVP's every season, we would not be having any of these debates.

The Astros and Correa do want to be with each other long term, remember that. I still feel confident that he and the team will come together and get this thing done. Until then, strap in and enjoy the game of chicken that always gets played in this business.
