The Astros entered Wednesday with hopes of securing another series win and picking up their ninth straight win overall. The Royals had other plans however as they jumped Cristian Javier from the first pitch, mashing out three home runs, including a leadoff shot in the first from Whit Merrifield, as they belted out five runs in the first three innings of the ballgame.
Houston’s bats would chip away throughout the night thanks to two runs batted in from Jake Meyers and another from Kyle Tucker. Javier would gut out five innings, leaving the game after giving up five runs, including the three Royals home runs.
The Astros trend of coming from behind in this series continued in the sixth inning as Aledmys Diaz continued to show signs of life, homering for the second straight night, this time making it a one run game.
Despite their effort at another come from behind win, the Astros bats just could not get the job done as the clubs eight game winning streak was snapped as the Royals held on to a 7-4 victory. Houston will look to secure the series win tomorrow afternoon as they hand the ball to Justin Verlander. The Royals will pin their hopes on Kris Bubic.
