We have another current big league player weighing in on the Astros sign stealing scandal, this time it's Kansas City Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield. During an interview with Clubhouse Conversation, Merrifield had this to say about missing out on being an All-Star in 2018 as Astros second baseman was voted in by the fans ahead of Merrifield, Altuve's sixth All-Star game selection in his career.
"I'm going to consider myself an All-Star (for that year) with all this stuff that's come out. Astros cheating kept me from being All Star that game. We'll put an asterisk by 2018. And on top of it, we'll go ahead and throw in a silver slugger for good measure."
Merrifield has led the American League in hits each of the last two season, including a 192 in that 2018 season. Altuve led all players in votes received by the fans in 2018 and was one of two American League second baseman to make the AL All-Star roster along with Gleyber Torres of the New York Yankees. Merrifield made his first All-Star game this past year for the AL team.
Ahead of the All-Star break in that 2018 season, Altuve and Merrifield's stats looked like this.
Altuve:
Games: 99
Batting Average: .332
Home Runs: 9
RBI: 44
On Base %: .394
SLG %: .470

Merrifield:
