The Houston Texans are once again in search of their quarterback of the future, every week we'll preview the week ahead with your Texans Future QB viewing guide and a look back at the performances from the past weekend. Following week three, the Texans Future QB rankings will be unveiled and updated throughout the season leading up to the 2022 NFL draft.
On Friday night, Howell struggled on the road against Virginia Tech with little help from his squad. He was sacked six times, including three times in a four-play stretch in the first half. His lone TD pass came on a wide receiver screen with the pass caught five yards behind the line of scrimmage. Then he had two second half interceptions, the last of which came in the final minute. It came on 2nd and 7, down 7, 40 yards from the endzone, with all three timeouts. And if you haven't seen it - it's a decision that you don't want to see your quarterback make.
Every other quarterback listed above helped guide his team to victory. Rattler showed similar struggles to his early season woes last season, but he also made the kind of plays that show why he's so highly regarded. Ridder probably wows scouts the least with eye-popping athleticism or arm-strength, but he makes the right plays, reads, throws an awful lot which leads Cincy to a lot of lopsided wins.
Willis will absolutely wow the scouts with eye-popping plays and he had a few against Campbell. Effortless with his throws and smooth moving around the field. As the competition grows (they play at 1-0 Troy next Saturday), so will Willis right up the draft board. He's awfully impressive. Daniels faced a very tough defense and it showed on Saturday night in Charlotte against Clemson. He'll need to show a lot more as the season continues than what he displayed in week 1.
Kedon Slovis and Carson Strong aren't gonna see a lot of time on the highlight shows, since they'll be the late night fare on most weeks. Slovis was solid and mistake free, while Strong brought his team back from a 14-0 deficit. Cal basically played keep away early in the game. Strong was on the field for 3 plays in the first quarter, but he played well enough to get the Wolf Pack the win. He'd probably like to have his lone interception back. He went for a deep ball on a 3rd and four up 22-17 early in the fourth quarter, but put too much air under the ball and the safety had time to come over from the middle of the field to pick him off at the goal line.
Just one game going on Monday night and it featured Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral and he shined. He didn't throw his only touchdown pass until the game was already decided, but he was brilliant. Easily the best performance of the weekend among this group, he was a big play machine, had an earlier beautiful, long touchdown pass called back by a penalty and was in total control of the game, whether throwing or running the football for the Rebels offense that basically couldn't be stopped by Louisville.
