A hearing will be held today at 2 p.m. CT on a motion filed by the attorneys for Deshaun Watson to delay his depositions. The series of depositions for Watson were scheduled to begin February 22, 2022, but the motion requests a 60-day delay for that process to begin.
Among the reasons stated for a delay in Watson's depositions includes the fact that 10 of the 22 Plaintiff's depositions have not been completed. The 19-page motion filed last week, notes that many of those uncompleted depositions are because individual Plaintiffs repeatedly delayed and canceled them, often with no notice. The motion also details questions from depositions that have gone unanswered due to a variety of tactics (which are described in detail in the motion) which prevent Watson from understanding the allegations against him and thus hampers his ability to prepare a proper defense..
The motion also cites the fact that the criminal investigation is still ongoing after eight of the plaintiffs made complaints to law enforcement. The motion says it is believed the criminal investigations 'are drawing to a close.' The motion states that delaying Watson's depositions to no earlier that April 1, 2022 makes it more likely that the criminal investigation would be complete and if they are complete by April 1, 2022 then Watson's depositions could begin on April 4, 2022.
