REPORT: Texans Trade Running Back For 2026 Late Round Draft Picks

According to NFL insider, Tom Pelissero, the Houston Texans have traded running back Cam Akers to the Minnesota Vikings. The Texans are receiving a conditional sixth and seventh round draft pick in 2026.

Akers played in five games this season for the Texans, after being signed over the summer to compete for playing time in a crowded running back group. The running back put up 147 rushing yards on 40 carries this season. He also pulled in four catches for 16 yards receiving.

It was pretty evident that Akers would be the odd man out in the Texans running back room, when both Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce made their returns from injury on Sunday against the New England Patriots. The Texans have also started to rely more on Dare Ogunbowale.
