Rockets Alperen Sengun Selected to First All-Star Game

HOUSTON – Today, the NBA announced that Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun was selected as a reserve for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game as voted on by head coaches in the Western Conference. He is the Rockets first All-Star since James Harden and Russell Westbrook in 2020 and joins Moses Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon and Yao Ming as the only players 22 or younger to be named an All-Star in franchise history.

The Rockets are 32-14 this season and have the third-best winning percentage (.696) in the NBA.  Sengun has started all 46 games, while averaging 19.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.28 steals with a team-best plus/minus rating of +246 (19th in the NBA).

Sengun is one of four players averaging at least 19.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg and 5.0 apg this season. Dating back to 1983-84, he is the seventh different player to have recorded his totals of points, rebounds, assists and steals through the first 46 games played of a season (Giannis Antetokounmpo 2x, DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Garnett 3x, Nikola Jokić 3x, Chris Webber, Russell Westbrook 2x).

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Sengun recently became the 16th player in NBA history to have recorded at least 4,000 points, 2,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists within the first 256 games of a career. He also became the fifth player to have reached 4K points, 2K rebounds and 1K assists along with 250 steals and 200 blocks through that many games, joining Alvan Adams, Larry Bird, Lionel Simmons and Chris Webber.

Sengun has recorded 28 double-doubles in the 46 games this season after having 29 in 63 games played in 2023-24. He is tied for the sixth-most game with 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds of any player this season.  Sengun also ranks eighth in the league in most shots defended (17.7 per), sixth in points in the paint (13.6 per), tied for sixth in offensive rebounding (3.4 orpg) and fifth in second-chance points (3.8 per).

In 2023-24, Sengun became the second-youngest player in NBA history (Luka Dončić) to have averaged at least 20.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 5.0 apg in a season. He will be 22 years old for the duration of this season.
