The Astros have acquired a young, stud closer. Ken Giles is gone and Roberto Osuna is here. Everyone should be happy the Ken Giles experiment is over. We are psyched to see a wacko that punched himself in the face hit the bricks. We are hesitant to celebrate too much because the new Astros closer may have punched a woman.
Major League Baseball found enough evidence to suspend Osuna for 75 games. He will be unavailable until August 5th. This is already a controversial move with many people across talk radio and social media sharing thoughts.
Astros GM Jeff Luhnow released a statement moments ago:
"We are excited to welcome Roberto Osuna to our team. The due diligence by our front office was unprecedented. We are confident that Osuna is remorseful, has willfully complied with all consequences related to his past behavior, has proactively engaged in counseling, and will fully comply with our zero-tolerance policy related to abuse of any kind. Roberto has some great examples of character in our existing clubhouse that we believe will help him as he and his family establish a fresh start and as he continues with the Houston Astros. We look forward to Osuna's contributions as we head into the back half of the season."
I don't know what happened between Osuna and his lady friend. None of us do. If the Astros win big, fans cloaked in orange and blue will forget this really fast. Winning does that.
