The AL West just got a lot more interesting as Japanese two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani has agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Angels.
The 23-year old pitcher/outfielder was a prized free agent this offseason that garnered attention from teams across the league. He projects as a front-line starter on the mound with a fastball that can get up to 102, and posted a 2.52 ERA in five season in Japan with the Nippon-Ham Fighters.
At the plate, Ohtani his 22 homers with a 1.004 OPS in 104 games last year. A deciding factor in his decision was the ability to take regular at-bats on days he is not pitching, and he figures to be a designated hitter for Los Angeles.
