HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros and right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski have agreed to a one-year contract for 2019, which includes a club option for the 2020 season. The announcement was made by Astros President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jeff Luhnow . Terms of the deal were not disclosed. With the agreement, the Astros and Devenski avoided an arbitration hearing.
Devenski, 28, posted a 4.18 ERA (22ER/47.1IP) in 50 appearances with the Astros in 2018. For the second consecutive season he posted more than a strikeout per inning, fanning 51 in his 47.1 innings pitched, giving him 255 strikeouts in 236.1 career innings. An All-Star in 2017, Devenski has made 160 Major League appearances in his three-year career (2016-18).
