The Astros picked up win number 106 on Saturday night, defeating the Angels and clinching home field throughout the postseason.
On Friday, the Astros clinched home field throughout the American League, but following Saturday’s win with a one game lead on the Dodgers, the Astros would hold home field in the World Series as well.
In addition on Saturday, Justin Verlander picked up 300 strikeouts on the season, with he & Gerrit Cole becoming just the second duo of teammates ever to each record 300 strikeouts in a season (Curt Schilling & Randy Johnson also achieved this feat).
Verlander also hit 3,000 career strikeouts, becoming just the 18th pitcher ever to join the 3,000 club.
The A’s will face the Tampa Bay Rays in Oakland in the Wild Card game on Wednesday. The winner will play ALDS Game 1 in Houston on Friday. Hear all the action on SportsTalk790!
