KANSAS CITY, Mo. — About 45 minutes before Texas was set to face Texas Tech, Big 12 officials pulled both teams off the floor Thursday and canceled the league’s basketball tournament.
The decision was made on a hectic morning when other conferences canceled their tournaments in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. The Longhorns were already back in their locker room, packing up and trying to get a flight back to Austin around 2 p.m. Dozens of Texas and Tech band members and cheerleaders who rode a bus all the way to Kansas City went back home.
FORT WORTH, TEXAS –Commissioner Mike Aresco announced this morning that the 2020 Air Force Reserve Men’s Basketball Championship, scheduled to take place March 12-15 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, will not be played.
The decision was made in consultation with the Conference’s leadership in light of recent developments regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This is a proactive decision to protect the safety, health and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff and all involved with the tournament.
