HOUSTON, TX - The Astros have extended a qualifying offer to free agent outfielder George Springer, General Manager James Click announced today.
Springer hit .265 in 51 games in 2020 with 37 runs scored, 14 home runs and 32 RBI. He led the club in runs, home runs and OPS (.899). In 13 postseason games, Springer hit four home runs with 10 RBI.
Today is the deadline for clubs to extend qualifying offers to their players entering free agency. The deadline for players to accept or decline qualifying offers is 4 p.m. CT on Nov. 11. The Astros did not extend qualifying offers to any other eligible players. Players not receiving qualifying offers are free to sign with all 30 clubs.
ASTROS EXERCISE CLUB OPTION ON RALEY
Click also announced that the Astros have exercised the club option for 2021 on LHP Brooks Raley's contract. Raley, who was acquired by Houston from Cincinnati on August 9 for a player to be named later, posted an 0.75 WHIP in 17 relief appearances for the Astros with 21 strikeouts in 16.0 IP (0-1, 1 SV, 3.94 ERA, 17 G, 16.0 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 4 BB, 20 SO).
