Longtime sports writer and author John Feinstein released his Top 25 college basketball rankings this week and received a lot of negative feedback from Houston Cougar fans on social media, as he did not have the Cougars, who many consider to be a top team this year, in his Top 25 rankings.
On Tuesday, Feinstein took to social media to announce he will be giving up his AP vote. Feinstein tweeted:
"Congratulations Houston fans. You were the last straw. While I 100 percent believe the AP should published each voter's ballot every week, I've decided, after voting for 23 years, I no longer need the kind of abuse directed at me over a basketball poll. Understand, you aren't by any stretch the first group of fans to behave like this, you just pushed me over the edge. I'm betting most of those who tweeted have never read much or any of my work and that's fine. I simply don't want--or need--to deal with any of this at this point in my life... I have too much to do that's actually important. I think you all should throw yourselves a party to celebrate because my no longer voting will no doubt greatly affect the fortunes of your basketball team. I love sports, but I find this sort of behavior depressing. Au revoir."
