Astros Agree To One-Year Deal With RHP Ryne Stanek

The Astros have signed free agent right-handed pitcher Ryne Stanek to a one-year contract, Astros General Manager James Click announced today.

Over the past four seasons, Stanek has made 152 Major League appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays (2017-19) and Miami Marlins (2019-20), respectively. Primarily as a reliever, Stanek has posted a 4.00 ERA (77ER/173.1IP) in his career while tallying 210 strikeouts in 173.1 innings pitched. He has a 10.9 strikeouts/9.0 innings pitched ratio and a .223 opponents’ batting average for his career. Stanek was also used often as an opener for the Rays in 2018-19, making a combined 56 starts in that span. A hard thrower, Stanek’s average fastball velocity for his career is 97.7 mph.

Most recently, Stanek appeared in nine regular season games in relief for the Miami Marlins in 2020 (0-0, 7.20 ERA, 10.0 IP, 11 SO). He also hurled 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings in the NLDS vs. Atlanta.

With the addition of Stanek, the Astros 40-man roster now has 39 players.
