HOUSTON –Pending final approval by the University of Houston Board of Regents, Houston Football head coach Dana Holgorsen announced on Tuesday that Doug Belk has been promoted to defensive coordinator.
Belk has spent the last two seasons at Houston as the Cougars’ co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach. He also served as UH’s associate head coach for the 2020 season.
“Doug has been a key part of our coaching staff since we arrived at Houston,” Holgorsen said. “I have been able to watch his development as a coach for the last four years and I know he is ready for this opportunity.”
Belk will continue to coach Houston’s safeties and maintain his role as associate head coach.
“I want to thank Coach Holgorsen for giving me this incredible opportunity,” Belk said. “I look forward to continuing to work with our great coaches, staff and players as we work to compete for championships on the field.”
Prior to arriving at Houston, Belk spent two seasons at West Virginia (2017-18) as the Mountaineers’ cornerbacks coach. Prior to West Virginia, Belk was a defensive graduate assistant at Alabama from 2014-16.
Prior to Alabama, Belk was the secondary coach at Valdosta State in 2012-13. He was a defensive assistant and worked with special teams in 2011.
