Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy of Next Up react to former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt leaving the door open for a possible return to the NFL. At his annual charity softball game, Watt shared that he told head coach DeMeco Ryans that "if you ever do call, I'll be there" if the Texans "absolutely need it." On today's show, we catch up with Oklahoma Sooners WR Nic Anderson who is coming off of a breakout redshirt freshman season where he recorded 798 receiving yards and a freshman school record for touchdown catches with ten. We talk with Nic about how the Sooners spring practices went, and what he's seen from QB Jackson Arnold as he takes over as the next big QB in Norman.  

Anderson also talks about the addition of WR Deion Burks to the offense, as well as the new pieces to the offensive line. And we touch on the defense which looks to be loaded once again with guys like Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman returning, along with some big pieces on the defensive line. And we get Nic's thoughts on his head coach Brent Venables.

Chris Gordy of Next Up recaps the Houston Astros losing 5-4 to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday to drop the series 2-1 at Minute Maid Park. Kyle Tucker and Jon Singleton both scored two-run home runs to give the Astros the lead heading into the eighth inning. Bryan Abreu hit the second batter he faced, committed a balk and then allowed an RBI single to tie the game. Josh Hader took over in the ninth and gave up a home run to Cal Raleigh. Hader has now allowed at least one run in six of his 15 appearances. The Astros have blown eight saves this season and move to a 12-22 record.

The Astros took the three-game series 2-1 at Minute Maid Park. Prior to Tuesday's game, the Astros announced that first baseman Jose Abreu accepted an option to the spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Astros have lacked offensive production from the first base position to start the season; however, Jon Singleton recorded a three-run home run Tuesday and a two-run home run and three RBI Thursday, finally giving the Astros some quality at-bats from first base. We also run through a few teams that pleasantly surprised us in the spring, including Arkansas with Bobby Petrino back calling plays for new QB Taylen Green, Mississippi State who has very low expectations for Jeff Lebby in Year 1 but QB Blake Shapen is good enough to pull off an upset, and Florida has a brutal schedule but still has talent on the roster with Graham Mertz and DJ Lagway. 

And we touch on a few teams that may be a little bit overrated heading into this season. The Texas Longhorns will be very good, but are we overlooking all the talent they just lost to the NFL Draft? Does Mizzou take a step back this season, how big will the loss of RB Cody Schrader be for them? Could we be overrating Alabama a bit in Year 1 of Kalen DeBoer, and ignoring the losses on the defense?

Brian Bogusevic, former Astros outfielder and Space City Home Network analyst, joins to discuss Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez both going 0-4 at the plate and the Astros inability to execute in close games. Stan and Chris also discuss the Texans releasing their offseason workout schedule and predict what the regular season schedule will look like. Will the Chiefs host the Texans for the NFL season opener?

Brian Bogusevic, former Astros outfielder and Space City Home Network analyst, joins Next Up to recap the Astros losing 3-2 against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. The Guardians even the series with the Astros in back-to-back extra inning games at Minute Maid Park. Ace Justin Verlander had a good outing for his third start of the season, pitching a season-high seven innings. However, the Astros have struggled with a "lack of execution in close games," Bogusevic said. Third baseman Alex Bregman went 0-4 at the plate, and Bogusevic says Bregman is "not comfortable with his swing being in the zone for very long." The Astros are 6.5 games back from first place in the America League West and are currently 10-20 on the season. "We have to start trying to win games now," because the Astros can't continue to drop in the standings. Yordan Alvarez was also 0-4 at the plate and has been in the lineup every game of the season so far. "There's just not enough depth in the lineup" to rest Alvarez, so "you need him everyday that he can be out there."
