George Springer hit a three-run home run in the top of the 9th inning Friday night, breaking a one all tie to lead the Astros to a 4-1 victory over the Royals.
Gerrit Cole won his 13th straight decision to improve to 17-5 on the season. Cole tossed eight strong innings, surrendering one unearned run on four hits. Cole struck out 11 and walked two. He's 13-0 in his last 19 starts which is the longest consecutive streak of winning decisions in a season since 2013 when Stephen Strasburg did it for the Nationals. Roberto Osuna pitched a scoreless 9th to earn his 33rd save of the season.
Jose Altuve hit a solo homer in the top of the 1st which was the only run for the Astros until Springer's home run. Altuve had two hits in the win and broke the Astros record for home runs by a second baseman which was held by Jeff Kent in 2004. Houston worked eight walks on their way to win 96 of the year.
Zack Greinke will take the mound for the Astros in game two of the series.
