What You Need To Know: Pre-Game Notes for Astros World Series Game 7

As you get ready to watch or listen to the Astros in World Series Game 7, below are some things you need to know. Keep in mind you can hear tonight's game on our sister station NewsRadio 740 KTRH, and then following the Rockets game, we will join the Astros game in progress on 790AM. Here's what you need to know:

  • According to AJ Hinch, Justin Verlander will not be available to pitch tonight. Verlander just threw 93 pitches last night, so it would not be smart to try to run him back out there tonight. Especially with Spring Training just four months away (should he suffer an injury).
  • Gerrit Cole WILL be available tonight, though in a limited capacity according to Hinch. Cole threw 110 pitches just three nights ago, but you get the feeling if Hinch needs an inning out of him, he could ask him to do it.
  • After missing the last few games with a hip flexor, Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki was back in the lineup and catching. However, he was a late scratch and Yan Gomes will start at catcher.
  • For the first time this postseason, the Astros will wear their signature orange jerseys. When the Astros won World Series Game 7 in 2017, they wore their orange jerseys.
  • As for non-game notes, Deshaun Watson will no longer call out "Play Ball" at the start of the game; he has been replaced by actor Matthew McConaughey.
