The Proposal:
- Team with best record in each league receives bye to Division Series
- Wild Card round would feature other 2 division winners and 4 wild card teams.
- Wild card matchups would be determined on a selection show special on the last Sunday of the season.
- The division winner with the best record who didn’t receive a bye to the division series would pick its opponent from the bottom 3 wild card teams.
- The division winner with the worst record would then pick its opponent from the remaining bottom 2 wild card teams.
- The wild card team not selected yet from the bottom 3 would play the top wild card team.
- The wild card round would become a best of 3 series in which the division winner/top wild card team would host all 3 games.
- The remaining playoff format would remain the same as it is currently with the winners from the 3 wild card rounds being re-seeded below the team that received a bye in to the classic 2-2-1 Division Series matchups.
