Randy Johnson Did Something Insane 20 Years Ago Today

Randy Johnson is a legendary pitcher. He threw really hard and had pinpoint accuracy. He's known for being one of the greatest pitchers of all time and he was inducted into Major League Baseball's Hall Of Fame back in 2015. His accolades include him being a 10 time All-Star, a 5 time Cy Young Award Winner, a World Series Champion and a World Series MVP. He's also won more than 300 games as a pitcher, recorded 4,875 strikeouts, pitched a perfect game and once threw a ball so hard, it killed a dove.

You're probably reading this and saying, "I'm sorry, what was that last part again?" If you are, then, yes, you read that correctly. While pitching in a spring training game for the Arizona Diamondbacks back in 2001, Randy Johnson threw a fastball and it connected with a low flying dove. The dove then proceeded to explode, with feathers flying in just about every direction. It was an honest accident. I mean, no one actually intends to hit a bird with anything, let alone a baseball. But yes, it did indeed happen. Some poor dove flew right into Randy Johnson's fastball and within a split second, it ascended into the big birdhouse in the sky. It's still an incredible occurrence when you think about it. What are the odds that, with a baseball, you hit a bird so hard that it explodes? What are the odds you that hit a bird at all? I'd say the odds for both of those things are pretty slim.

A dove is used to represent peace. This one, well, he's resting in peace. RIP, Unknown Dove, March 24th, 2001
