Astros Coach Gary Pettis Set to Rejoin Club July 6

HOUSTON, TX- Astros third base coach Gary Pettis, who has been away from the ballclub while recovering from multiple myeloma, has returned to Houston and is scheduled to rejoin the team on July 6.

Pettis, who is currently quarantining, will initially take part in pregame workouts and activities when he rejoins the club on July 6 and then eventually resume his duties as third base coach. Pettis has served as the Astros third base coach since the 2015 season.

In September of 2020, Pettis left the team after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He has been at his home in California since that time undergoing treatments, but has reunited with the ballclub on two occasions: October 16-17 to watch Games 6 and 7 of the American League Championship Series vs. Tampa Bay in San Diego; April 5 of this season when the Astros were in Anaheim playing the Angels.
