Houston Guard Taze Moore to Compete in NCAA Slam Dunk Championship

HOUSTON – University of Houston high-flying graduate guard Taze Moore will compete in the Great Clips Slam Dunk Championship at the 33rd annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in New Orleans on Thursday.

Moore electrified Houston fans inside the Fertitta Center throughout the 2021-22 season with his jumping abilities and dunking prowess. 

Moore is one of eight student-athletes selected to compete in the event with the winner receiving $5,000. 

As a starter for the Cougars in 2021-22, he helped lead Houston to a 32-6 overall, record, a sweep of the American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships and the NCAA Elite Eight for the second straight season.

Moore played in all but two games this season with 31 starts, averaging 10.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and a team-best 1.6 steals per game. 

He enjoyed 20 games with double-digit points and posted a season-high 21 points in the Cougars’ NCAA Tournament Second Round win over #19/16 Illinois on March 20. 

The Southaven, Miss., native closed his collegiate career with a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the Cougars’ NCAA Elite Eight loss to #6/5 Villanova on March 26.
