Texans' Laremy Tunsil donates $160,000 for high school football scoreboard

Texans Pro Bowl left offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, known for his philanthropy in the community, is making a heavy commitment to his high school.

The former Lake City Columbia consensus All-American and top-ranked offensive tackle recruit to Mississippi is donating $160,000 to his high school for a state-of-the-art digital scoreboard to be installed by this fall. His alma mater plans to name the field after him.

A former Super Prep and U.S. Army All-American at Lake City Columbia, Tunsil was a Florida high school all-state selection and named the Class 6A Player of the Year.

Tunsil is scheduled to attend the Texans' mandatory full-team minicamp next week after not participating in voluntary organized team activities and training independently, according to league sources. Tunsil did participate in a portion of the Texans' offseason program.

Earlier this offseason, the Texans restructured Tunsil's contract by converting his $17.85 million salary to $16.815 million bonus with $1.035 million as his new salary. The former MIami Dolphins first-round draft pick's salary cap figure is down to $17.7 million from $26.1 million in 2022 His 2023 salary of $18.5 million is unchanged.

Stonewalling pass rushers is what sets Tunsil apart from other blockers around the league.

Tunsil is extremely athletic with polished technique and outstanding size and strength.

What Tunsil wasn't last season was healthy and available due to undergoing surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb suffered against the New England Patriots. The injury ended his season as he remained on injured reserve.
