HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have signed IF Dixon Machado to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.
Machado, 30, split his 2022 season between the Cubs and Giants organizations, playing primarily at the Triple A level. The right-handed hitting middle infielder combined for a .291 (134x461) average, while hitting 26 doubles, six homers and collecting 46 RBI at Triple A. He also had a week-long stint in the Majors with the Giants, appearing in five games, all starts at shortstop. Machado has played parts of five Major League seasons (2015-18, 2022), appearing in 177 career Major League games, most coming with the Tigers (2015-18).
Machado is the second player to sign a minor league deal with an invite to Major League Spring Training, joining LHP Austin Davis, who signed with the club on Nov. 16.
