On Wednesday, Astros GM Dana Brown spoke to the media, and provided some health updates on a number of injured Houston Astros players:
- Lance McCullers Jr had surgery this week to repair a tendon in his right forearm and remove a bone spur, and will miss the rest of the entire 2023 season. He is expected to return some time next season.
- Yordan Alvarez is still nursing a right oblique strain, and has basically been shut down for his oblique to heal. He will be sidelined for at least four weeks.
- Jose Urquidy continues to throw off flat ground, but is likely to pitch off the mound during this homestand. Once he does that, there will be a clearer timeline for him to return.
- Michael Brantley is hitting in the cages and throwing without pain, and will continue to ramp up his baseball activities over the next week. If all goes well over the next two weeks, there will be a clearer timeline for his return.
