Cristian Javier Has Forearm Discomfort; José Abreu Will Be Activated Monday

As the Astros closed out a series victory vs the Oakland A's on Sunday afternoon, there are a few roster tidbits to follow:

  • GM Dana Brown told Robert Ford on the Astros pregame show Sunday on SportsTalk790 that José Abreu WILL be activated on Monday in Seattle. Brown said, though Abreu did not get a hit in his two games in Sugar Land, that it wasn't about getting hits, but more about getting quality at-bats.
  • Manager Joe Espada informed the media following Sunday's game that Cristian Javier did NOT throw his scheduled bullpen on Sunday, and has had "forearm discomfort" and is considered day-to-day. Javier was in line to pitch Tuesday night's game in Seattle. They could slide Hunter Brown up to pitch Tuesday, but they would still have to find an arm to pitch on Wednesday night.
  • Lastly, GM Dana Brown told Robert Ford that Jose Urquidy will be evaluated by physicians on Tuesday after leaving his minor-league start on Friday night. Urquidy was expected to rejoin the Astros roster this week, but that has been sidelined for now as he deals with "right forearm discomfort."
