Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said that Tom Savage will be his starting quarterback in the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday. Deshaun Watson and Brandon Weeden will also get snaps against the Panthers and all eyes will be on Watson and see how he does in his first NFL action.
O'Brien made is clear Savage is the guy.
"Tom is going to start the game. Deshaun (Watson) will play and Brandon (Weeden) will play." O'Brien said after practice on Monday.
"You have not idea how the game is going to play out. How long is this drive? How long is that drive?," O'Brien explained. "You have to play it by ear relative to how the game goes but all three quarterbacks will play in the game."
O'Brien will be watching Savage and all the quarterbacks during the preseason opener and is stressing clean games from all three.
"Good operation of the offense, take care of the football, get in and out of the huddle quickly from all three of those guys," O'Brien said of what he is looking for."
O'Brien continued, "Clean game and clean operation, everybody on the same page and see if we can score some points."
O'Brien wants the quarterback group to show well in the preseason opener and it starts with the huddle.
