Astros Sign LHP Wade Miley to One-Year Deal

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros have signed free agent left-handed pitcher Wade Miley to a one-year contract for the 2019 season. The announcement was made by Astros President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jeff Luhnow .

Miley, 32, is coming off a solid 2018 season with the Brewers, in which he went 5-2 with a 2.57 ERA (23ER/80.2IP) in 16 starts for the NL Central Division Champions. He did not allow more than three earned runs in a start all season and allowed two or fewer earned runs in 13 of his 16 outings. In his 80.2 innings pitched, Miley allowed only three home runs on the season for a 0.33 home runs per 9.0 ratio, good for third in the Majors, trailing only Blake Treinen (0.22) and Jordan Hicks (0.23) (min. 75IP). He allowed just a .237 opponent batting average, including a .225 mark against left-handed hitters. Miley continued his regular season success into the postseason, making four playoff appearances for the Brewers, all starts, and posting a 1.23 ERA (2ER/14.2IP) in those contests.

Formerly a first-round pick by the Diamondbacks in 2008, Miley owns a lifetime 71-76 record and a 4.26 ERA (585ER/1236.1IP) in 216 Major League games (212 starts). Prior to 2018, Miley had a run of six consecutive seasons (2012-17) of making 29 or more starts.

With the addition of Miley, the Astros now have 39 players on their 40-man roster
