Texans Use Franchise Tag on Jadeveon Clowney

The Houston Texans have placed the franchise tag on edge presence Jadeveon Clowney marking the first time the Texans have used the franchise tag. The Texans remain hopeful they can lock up Clowney to a long term contract but for now, the Texans will use the franchise tag to make sure he is not available for free agency when the new league year starts.

The Texans could tag Clowney at the defensive end for $17.128 million or linebacker which is worth $15.443 million. Clowney has until July 15th to sign his franchise tag but both sides will continue to work on a contract heading to the season.
