Spring Training: Astros Explode for 7 Runs in the 5th, Beat Marlins 11-5

The Houston Astros scored 11 runs on nine hits Wednesday afternoon as they defeated the Miami Marlins 11-5 in Grapefruit League play.

Brad Peacock started on the mound for the Astros and tossed three innings of solid work. Peacock tossed 62% of his pitches for strikes with a total of 48 pitches in 3.0 IP. He allowed only one hit with one walk, two strikouts and gave up two unearned runs. Peacock is still vying for the 5th starter spot in the pitching rotation. Also fighting for that 5th start spot is Framber Valdez. Valdez tossed 3.0 IP giving up 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB while striking out two.

Offensively, AJ Reed led Houston with three RBIs, going 2-2 with one run scored. Reed came in as a pinch hitter for Jose Altuve. Abraham Toro went 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Robinson Chirinos and Garrett Stubbs each hit homeruns in the win against Miami.

Justin Verlander will have the ball for tomorrow's game as the Astros take on the Marlins at 12:05pm CT.
