Verlander Deals as Astros Hit 3 Homers in Opening Day Win Over Rays

Justin Verlander only allowed three hits on his way to the first victory of the season as the Houston Astros took down the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-1.

George Springer hit a homerun on Opening Day for the third straight year. Michael Brantley and Jose Altuve also hit bombs in the victory.

Altuve and Brantley both went 2-4 along with Yuli Gurriel who also went 2-4. In total, the Astros collected 10 hits as a team Thursday afternoon.

Verlanders final line: 7.0 IP 3 H 1 R 1 ER 1 BB 9 K and 1 HR. Ryan Pressly allowed 1 hit in an inning pitched striking out two and Roberto Osuna struck out one in an inning pitched.

Gerrit Cole will take the mound tomorrow night against former Astro, Charlie Morton who will pitch for the Rays. First pitch is slated for 6:10pm CT.
