Astros Bullpen Shines in 4-2 Win Over Mariners

The Astros scored three early runs right out of the gate Monday night, on their way to a 4-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Robinson Chirinos hit a solo home run for his 8th of the season to cap off the big first inning. Josh Reddick had an RBI triple and was then knocked in by a Yuli Gurriel RBI ground out. Houston was held off the board until the 6th when Gurriel hit into a fielder's choice which allowed Alex Bregman to score. Reddick led the way offensively with two hits and an RBI on a night where the Astros only had five hits.

Corbin Martin struggled again to find himself getting past the 4th inning. Martin exited the game after three and has not made it past the 4th inning in his last three starts. He gave up two earned runs on four hits, three walks and struck out three.

Framber Valdez pitched four scoreless innings in relief of Martin. Valdez struck out three, walked two and gave up just two hits. Chris Devenski came on in the 8th, giving up just one hit while striking out one. Ryan Pressly earned his third save of the season by pitching a perfect 9th. The three relievers combined to throw six scoreless innings to hold off the Mariners who left six men in scoring position.

Wade Miley will take the mound in game two of the series. Miley is looking for his sixth win of the season Tuesday night with first pitch scheduled for 9:10pm CT.
