Yuli Gurriel and Alex Bregman both hit bombs to help the Houston Astros beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1, Tuesday night. The win opens up a six game homestand after going 1-6 on a rough road trip.
Gerrit Cole faced off against his former team and pitched well. Cole threw six innings of seven hit ball against the team that drafted him number one overall in 2011. He gave up seven hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out three.
Bregman had three hits including the home run with an RBI and three runs to lead the way offensively. Gurriel had two hits and two RBI along with Josh Reddick who also had two hits. George Springer returned to the lineup after a stint on the IL. Springer had one hit in his return.
Houston improves to 50-30 on the season and will continue the series against Pittsburgh Wednesday night. Framber Valdez will take the mound with first pitch scheduled for 7:10pm.
