Gerrit Cole dominated through seven innings Sunday afternoon as the Astros took down the Mariners, 6-1. The victory secured a three-game series sweep.
Cole improved to 8-5 and allowed just one earned run on five hits. He struck out 10 and walked only one.
Yordan Alvarez returned to the lineup after a few days off with knee soreness and picked up right where he left off. Alvarez went 2-3 with three RBI and a walk. He had a two RBI double in the first and then an RBI single two innings later in the third. Jake Marisnick added to the scoring with a two RBI single in the 8th followed by a Jose Altuve RBI single in the same inning. Altuve had three hits on the day. Josh Reddick also added two hits in the win. As a team, the Astros pounded out 12 hits.
Houston improves to 53-32 on the season and will have Monday off to travel to Colorado to begin a two game series against the Rockies. The starter for Tuesday's game has yet to be announced.
