The Astros took care of business Sunday afternoon as they beat the Rangers, 12-4. With the win, Houston was able to split the four-game series.
Justin Verlander gave up two early runs in the bottom of the 1st inning but settled in to dominate through a total of six innings pitched. Verlander gave up four hits which were all singles and did not allow a home run for the first time since June 6th. JV retired his last 15 batters on his way to striking out seven and walking one. He improved to 11-4 on the season.
Jose Altuve had three hits including a grand slam in the victory. Altuve scored three times with four RBI as he hit lead off with George Springer on the bench for a scheduled day off. Yuli Gurriel also hit a homer on a three hit day with three RBI. Michael Brantley and Josh Reddick each had two hits and an RBI.
Houston will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Angels Monday evening. Josh James be used as an opener to set up for Framber Valdez who is listed as the starter. Valdez is pitching on three days' rest with Brad Peacock reporting shoulder soreness. Peacock is back in Houston to be reevaluated. The Astros will look for their 60th win of the season.
