Altuve Hits Homer for 1,500th Career Hit, Astros Take Down Cards 6-2

Jose Altuve hit a three-run bomb in the top of the 5th inning to record his 1,500th career hit in a 6-2 win over the Cardinals, Sunday afternoon. Altuve recorded three hits, three RBI and a run scored to help the Astros to a series win.

George Springer hit the second pitch of the game over the left field wall to give Houston an early 1-0 lead. Springer also had three hits with an RBI and three runs scored. Yordan Alvarez had two hits with one being a solo blast in the 3rd inning for his 12th homer of the season. Michael Brantley had another multi-hit game with two hits and an RBI. Yuli Gurriel extended his hitting streak to 16 games with two hits to continue his hot streak.

Wade Miley earned his 9th win of the season by giving up five hits in five shutout innings. Miley struck out six and walked just two.

Houston will travel to Cleveland to take on the Indians in a three game series. The Astros will have Monday off and begin play Tuesday night. Justin Verlander takes the mound in game one. Verlander has won his last three starts with an ERA of 2.00.
