Verlander Strikes Out 11 but Astros Lose on Walk-Off in Extras

Justin Verlander struck out 11 A's hitters Friday night to set a franchise record by striking out 10 or more in six straight outings. Despite the 11 K's, Houston lost to Oakland in 13 innings, 3-2.

Verlander gave up just four hits in seven innings of work while issuing two earned runs. Those runs were on a pair of solo homers from the A's. JV left with the game tied and neither team could manufacture a run until Oakland hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th off Cy Sneed. Sneed was handed the loss.

Michael Brantley had two doubles in the loss for his 49th multi-hit game of the season. Yordan Alvarez had two hits while working two walks. Carlos Correa and Yuli Gurriel had the two RBIs for Houston.

The Astros will have a quick turn around after a late night, looking to avoid their 5th straight loss. Saturday's game will be an afternoon start with Rogelio Armenteros being recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to take the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05pm CT.
