Springer and Altuve go Back-to-Back in Astros Win Over Tigers

George Springer and Jose Altuve led off the bottom of the 1st inning Tuesday night with back-to-back opposite field home runs to set the tone in a 6-3 win over Detroit.

Altuve had three hits on the night with two RBI. Michael Brantley hit a two run double in the bottom of the 2nd which was followed a few innings later by a Martin Maldonado solo home run. Yordan Alvarez worked his way to four walks in the win, becoming the second-youngest Astros player to do so just behind Joe Morgan.

Aaron Sanchez started on the mound for Houston but only lasted 2.1 innings. Sanchez allowed three runs on four hits and two walks before exiting. After the game, he was placed on the 10 day IL with a sore pectoral muscle. Brad Peacock earned the win by coming on in relief for Sanchez and struck out three in his 1.2 innings of work. Roberto Osuna earned his 29th save of the season.

Justin Verlander will take the mound Wednesday night for game three of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm.
