Cole Gets to 300 Ks, Astros Beat Rangers for Win 100

The Houston Astros beat the Rangers 3-2 Wednesday to reach their 100th win of the season. With the win, Houston has now won 100 games for the third consecutive season, becoming one of six teams in history to win at least 100 games in three consecutive seasons. Houston also clinched a playoff berth and their magic number to clinch the AL West title is down to two games.

Gerrit Cole struck out 10 Ranger hitters in the win to reach 300 strikeouts this season. He tossed eight innings while allowing two runs on six hits. Cole became the third Astros pitcher to have 300 strikeouts in a season. JR Richard and Mike Scott are the other two Houston pitchers to accomplish that feat. The last time Cole lost a start was back on May 22nd and has won 14 straight. The 10 strikeouts are a streak of 10 or more Ks in seven straight starts. Roberto Osuna earned his 35th save of the season by pitching a scoreless 9th.

Yuli Gurriel hit a two run homer in the 5th inning to give Houston an early lead. Jose Altuve hit a solo bomb a few innings later to make the score, 3-1. Gurriel and Yordan Alvarez both had two hits in the victory.

The Astros have Thursday off and will become a three game series at home against the Angels, Friday night. Zack Greinke will take the hill in game one of the series. Hear all of the action on your home for Astros baseball, SportsTalk790!
