Connor: After Locking Up Pressly, The Astros Need To Do This...

I decided to enjoy one of my last nights of really solid sleep for the next six months and passed out around nine on Tuesday night. When the alarm went off at four this morning I woke up to an unusually high amount of text messages. After scrolling through them I gathered that something happened with Ryan Pressly and once I hit Twitter I realized all those texts were for a good reason.

The Astros extending Pressly was the right move. The guy has been nothing but money since landing in Houston ahead of the deadline in 2018, turning into one of the games best closers. He is a Texas guy that is comfortable where he is at and getting this done now was the only way to go. There was no reason to let him hit the market, and the Astros were able to get him on a very fair deal for an elite level closer. Props to James Click and his staff for getting this done.

Now that they have this done, they need to work on another extension and it is for the obvious candidates, Yordan Alvarez or Kyle Tucker. These two guys are key parts of your core and it would be beneficial to both player and team to get something done now. The Astros have let guys walk year after year, Correa the latest. They need to use those examples as reason to go get this done now. Buy out a few years of arbitration for these guys and lock in your core for an even longer run. There are some people that will want you to believe that the Astros window is closing, but that simply is not true yet. While you have both Tucker and Alvarez under club control for some time, go ahead and do good by everyone and get something done now with one or both of the keys to keeping your winning window open even longer.
