Texans cut Jimmy Moreland

The Texans released veteran cornerback Jimmy Moreland.

Moreland was claimed off waivers by the Texans last season from Washington and played in seven games. He had two tackles.

At James Madison University, he had a school-record 18 interceptions and six defensive touchdowns

Drafted in the seventh round by the Washington franchise and forging a strong role with 86 career tackles, one interception and a 72.4 run defense grade in 2020 as he played 518 snaps at nickel corner last season.

Claimed off waivers by the Texans after being given an injury settlement to remove him from injured reserve with an injury settlement due to a bruised knee, Moreland didn't have a big role for the AFC South franchise.

A native of Belle Glade, Fla., and a Royal Palm Beach High School graduate, Moreland beat the odds by earning a college scholarship and being named a Football Championship Subdivision All-American. He competed in the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game, shadowing future Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow in red-zone drills.

For his career, he has 88 tackles, two for losses and three quarterback hits.
